Dear Salem Church Family,

 

As many of you know, there has been an ongoing debate for many years in The United Methodist Church (UMC) regarding issues of sexuality and ordination. 

 

After months of discussion, and prayer, the Leadership Team has decided to begin the discernment process regarding disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church. Entering into discernment means our church will be given the opportunity to make an informed decision whether to remain affiliated with or to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church.


We did not take this decision lightly and we understand that our congregation will have differing ideas about disaffiliating. Over the coming months, we will follow a thoughtful and prayerful process to help you make an informed decision leading to a vote by Professing Members only - a "yes" to disaffiliate or a "no" to remain with the UMC. To disaffiliate, two-thirds of those present must vote yes. This is an in-person vote.
